Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

A Long-Forgotten Entity: The American Express Travelers Cheques

Posted 03-14-2024 at 08:17 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

You remember the days when Karl Malden would go on TV and pitch a product which became a hedge of protection for travelers in case they'd lose their wallets or get them stolen. Viewers would see re-enactments of certain happenings, crimes, or losses. Yes, you remember the American Express travelers cheques.

The aforementioned Malden would often quip, "Don't leave home without them".

That was the thing for me when I first ventured into the...

Just One More Reason To Vote Trump And Republicans In November

Posted 03-14-2024 at 05:46 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Just what continues to be wrong with our world?

Well, look no further than our P/OC forums (where I never go anymore, but where some of you still do) if you need to see for sure. Below is a snippet from that forum.

Taken from a P/OC thread I just caught from the Forum homepage. Its title: "Another Young American Is Killed By 'Illegal Immigrant' --- More Blood On Biden! " Edited for proper clarity.

I-69 Update: Laredo Is Pushing Some Shovels

Posted 03-10-2024 at 05:42 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

A very short segment of Interstate 69W is about to get much longer.

The powers that be in the Laredo, Texas, area are gearing themselves up for a new stretch of freeway to add to the four miles they currently have on I-69W thus far. They just held their groundbreaking. What it covers is nearly five additional miles from near International Boulevard down southward to around Jacaman Road near Laredo International Airport. And the folks there are also still waiting for...

What I've Looked Forward To Since, Oh, Thanksgiving

Posted 03-08-2024 at 08:59 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Face it, sports fans, it's never enough to have a certain groundhog tell you that it's going to be an early spring. Where Texans are concerned, the season's already here.

Ever since the Thanksgiving season, the next thing on my senses would be March. Sure, Christmas was going to be around the corner, but I didn't want weather conditions to stay cold for long. But here we are right now. Never mind that it's still eleven days from when it technically begins...

So Much For Lubbock's Barbecue Emergence....

Posted 03-05-2024 at 08:52 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Before you make too big of a deal over the title, let me just say that Lubbock's still-new barbecue emergence isn't dead by any means. We did, however, have a big surprise in the paper to make some spew their cups of coffee.

Surprised me, too. The owners of Hill Barbecue have decided that they're closing their doors in April after six years of business on 34th Street. They didn't into any big specifics, but the husband-and-wife team of Andrew and Jewel Hill have made...
