Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Texas Rejoices As Governor Abbott Frees Us From Tyranny Nonsense

Posted Yesterday at 08:52 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I have every reason to look forward to March 10. You'll have every reason to mark said date on your calendars.

Texas citizens will rejoice. The COVID mask mandate is over. I never was a big fan of these stupid face masks that we've somehow been forced to wear for about a year now. Yes, I understand precautions and not getting others sick. Fair enough. But things have greatly improved now that this COVID crisis has finally diminished. So much for the...

Those Snows From A Few Weeks Back Made It To The Seawall

Posted 03-01-2021 at 07:34 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Like you, I'm eager to put the snow and ice events of a few weeks ago behind us. Not before, though, your writer found something on YouTube that you won't even catch every year.

Oh, but now that the following is captured, all of us can watch it over and over again until,...........well, until the owner of the YouTube vid decides to remove it, which I hope is the twelfth of Never. That snow that blanketed much of Texas made it into South Texas, but also the...

The Same Title --- But Not The Same Song

Posted 02-28-2021 at 03:48 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

On my mind right now are two songs. Both are entitled "Right Or Wrong". The common property, besides the title, is that both are charted country songs.

The first "Right Or Wrong" actually began as a jazz song, making its debut right around 1921 by Mike Markel and his Orchestra. Well, wouldn't you know Ol' Bob Wills would take that tune many fortnights later and make a record --- and a hit --- out of it? Sure did. George Strait would...

Contract Extensions: First, Carlos, You Have To Produce

Posted 02-23-2021 at 10:45 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

The Houston Astros and Carlos Correa are in a bit of a quandary right now. Correa wants a contract extension before the regular season even begins. The club, however, may be a bit reserved about it.

Unfortunately, I cannot blame the latter situation given Correa's injury-riddled past. Never mind what the San Diego Padres just did with what I felt was a rash and ridiculous extension that they gave young shortstop Fernando Tatis, Jr. That deal, I predict, will blow...

What A Difference A Few Days Can Make

Posted 02-22-2021 at 01:10 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Six days ago, six days before your writer scribbles this on his computer, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport recorded a low temperature of -1. Let that sink in for a moment.

Minus. One.

You just don't get that type of temperature every day (or every year, for that matter) in North Texas. Yet, that's where we were, as Mother Nature wanted to play head games with Americans and those pretending...
