Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

A Strange Way For A Bad Dream To End

Posted 01-24-2024 at 05:08 PM by case44

In the Case abode (another phrase for my apartment ), I usually try to keep things as pristine and serene as possible. But, as you know, life brings forth challenges, victories, and new problems after you've just gotten through with your old one. You never know what may happen.

While I'm trying to get over a slight cold, my sleep patterns have been very poor. I guess that might go with the territory, but it seems that NyQuil might not work like it used to. Maybe it's just age. So, Monday night into Tuesday morning, your writer took to bed to get ready for his trip back to work the next day. Just so you know, I can still work at the office just fine with a cold, considering the place where I work is currently not filled up all the way with people, but that's not important now. I went to bed to get some sleep. What transpired a few hours later is something I don't experience too much, but this display was the most drastic that I've had to go through. One minute, I'm asleep, and the next minute, I suddenly found myself being frightened awake by a bad dream. The bad dream apparently continued as I was scattering about on my bed, as if I was trying to escape something. Then I catapulted forward and somehow ended up falling off the other side of the bed, hitting my head against the wall and my body crumpled on the floor. Skinned elbow. Skinned knee. Somehow, the head situation was nothing more than a slight tap of pain just above the right eye. Folks, this was a lucky break, but there were a few moments of pain, as I did feel a slight impact in my neck area, but it's not serious. Just have to exercise those spots for a few days. Thank goodness the floor is carpeted.

What a way to wake up, right?

But the real striking moment came when I turned on the lights a few hours later. Lo, and behold, there was a three-inch hole in the wall. I landed in such an unusual way in the dark, and you could hardly tell what just happened. Ladies and gentlemen, I was blessed beyond belief that worse things did not happen. I could have had a bigger head injury. I could have been paralyzed with just the right impact. So, your writer could have met a totally different fate. Nonetheless, I got through the ordeal and was still able to get to work the next day. Oh, and I also was sleeping on top of the covers that night. Swift.

As for the hole in the wall, I have placed a maintenance work order on it and this scene might take a little time. I'll eventually get over this cold. I'm also not going to blame NyQuil for the bad dream. Lately, your writer has had some sleeping problems from time to time, and God will help make a way for me to address that issue in due course. Miraculous is one way to describe the outcome of this, because, folks, this easily could have gone a totally different way.

Bad dreams do get strange sometimes.
