It is up to us

Posted 07-21-2014 at 06:34 PM by kafrak

Sgt Tamorrissi has languished in a Mexican jail after mistakenly crossing the border into Mexico while traveling to a friend's house for over 120 days. Mexico is aware people miss the exit, their own police miss the exit. America is cooperative and when this happens, the longest anyone has been detained is 3 days. Mexico, NOT America's friend, has illegally detained Sgt. Tamorrissi for over four months. What is our government doing about it? Absolutely NOTHING! Our President said if Mrs. Tamorrissi could get 100,000 signatures on a petition he would intervene. This goal was exceeded, he ignored it and did absolutely nothing. Over and over again our Commander in Chief has shown us that we are on our own.

I am not writing to find fault with the federal government, it is ineffective and has no interest in the people of the country. Instead, I want to address the situation with Andrew Tamorrissi. His health is now in danger because of all the poor treatment he has received, the bullying from Mexican guards and other prisoners, and the stress of the entire situation.

Andrew is a hero of this country, having served with distinction and bravery in Afghanistan. There should be no question that our country would make his release a major goal and in years past, under either Democratic or Republican leadership it would have been a done.

Not anymore. Instead, Andrew's expenses have wiped out his savings and now his mother is raising funds for attorney expenses that will eventually bankrupt the family.

As citizens, we can petition the Mexican government and we will largely be ignored as America is no longer a force to be respected, but ridiculed. What we CAN do is help Sgt. Tamorrissi and his mother. How? Several ways. We can contribute to his legal defense fund: www.andrewfreedomfund.com.
Next we can send letters and cards to Andrew and to his mother that encourage them and let them know that they are not forgotten. Both of them so needs this.

Why not send care packages to Andrew? Wipes so he could refresh himself, candy bars, crackers, pictures of yourself so he can put them on his prison wall, books, magazines, crossword puzzle books with pencils, novels, tissues, toilet paper, soap. I don't know if the guards will actually give them to him, but the prison would be so bombarded with the show of support it could only help him.

Our government is not there for us, no point trying to change that at this point in time (another issue for another blog), we have to take care of each other. This is the time to start. Let's take care of a young man who needs and deserves our support.

Believe me, if I were president, our hero would be released right now and I'd even go to him personally. Keep him in your prayers that something good will get done soon.

I applaud your confidence and strongly believe that God answers prayer. I an so disgusted with the present lack of care for the country and lack of leadership. Andrew should have been home already. Please, consider not only including him in your prayers, but send him a card or letter, maybe a small donation to his defense fund. Thanks for reading and responding. This was my first ever.
