How does one go about reporting a DM from to an admin or mod? I have had this happen where the poster is asking me to "take my problem with him outside the forum." I have no intention of giving him my personal e-mail address and he has no right to ask.

Is this a violation of CD rules and should be reported or should I simply put this person on ignore.

Thank you.

Thank you. I did not know the proper person was to whom I should my problem was. I will do that with a copy of the DM.

I don't see any particular problem with someone asking me for my email address. My answer would simply be "no" in 99% of the cases. I think one single poster here on City-Data has my email address; it's a person whom I'd come to trust over time.

But, yes, if the context seemed to be a threat, I would report it too.

... or Direct Messages. But then you're cutting yourself off from the friendly ones. I'd just report them and let the senior mod deal with it.

I do not want to do that because I receive great DM's from people I like. I have been on CD for a long time and have never had this problem before. I am not going to allow one bad person ruin it for me so that I won't be able to enjoy the good correspondence I have with others. I just put him on ignore.

My point was I think when people are this far out of line and begin using the DM feature in a negative way, the admins should be aware of it. I am speaking only for myself because I only have proof of my own DMs. I believe, however, he is doing this to at least one other person.

It's just that I have never had to report anything like this before and I kind of got lost when I tried to find out what steps to take so I came here to ask about it.

Something can be done about the DMs sent here. I doubt CD can do anything about the ones sent to a poster's personal e-mail address.

I don't think the message was sent to her personal email address. It was a direct message.

You don't have to disable the DM system, but if I were you, I would change my setting so no one can contact you through your personal e-mail address. The one you used to register here.

I know that HOM. I'm suggesting, as a preemptive measure, that she should disable her "e-mail" setting, not her DM system.

I didn't know posters here could contact me through my e-mail, until one of the more colorful characters here did just that.
