I have tried and tried again to do website links in my posting and can not get it done correctly.
Could someone guide me thru the steps on how to get it done properly when I post?
Thanks so much!

Someone was having trouble earlier this week, I believe. I just "cut and paste" directly from the link and it works. It appeared the other person had somehow included the word "url" in the link and it didn't work.

Check to see if you are accidentally adding a word or symbol.

To make sure it works, you can also click on this icon: and just type the url directly in the box that appears.

Thanks both of you for your help! It is working perfect now. I tried everything prior including copy and paste. When I did submit the thread showed [url] and I had not put it there. I was so fustrated. It must have been a glitch, but it is working now...so I am happy!

Is there a difference in the user account? I am a new user, and my account seems to have HTML specifically disabled. At the bottom of the screen under Posting Rules, it reads "HTML code is Off." Below is me copying and pasting the example from the vBulleting help:

City-Data Forum

It doesn't work.

Here's just a plain link

https://www.city-data.com/forum/about...ing-links.html

All you do is highlight the URL and copy it and then paste it over to the forum.

You don't need to put [url] anywhere.

Does that make sense? It looks to me like you're actually typing the links into your message instead of just copying them from the toolbar.

Ahz, you need to be registered for a couple days and have a few posts and reputation >= 10 before you can create active links (it's for spam prevention). Try your example again in a couple days.

There's a lot of ways to prevent spam. On other boards, I've seen CAPTCHAs, the e-mail confirmation, hidden POST fields in the registration process, URL filters, keyword filters, etc. However, what city-data.com seems reasonable (but different from my other experiences).
