Out of curiosity, I was wondering if Alabamians or Southerners in general are obsessed with celebrities. As a conservative and a Christian, they drive me crazy, especially because here in England, celebrity culture has basically taken over religion. It's one of the many reasons I want to get out of this country, and hopefully go some place where people follow the examples of the Bible rather than some gossip magazine they picked up on the train last night...

Oh, I think that there's a little bit of that everywhere. You really can't avoid it.

As an open minded person, religious people drive me crazy, especially because here on earth, religion has basically taken over logic and reason. It's one of the many reasons I'd like these brainwashed people to go somewhere and follow the examples of scientists rather than some story book which has been rewritten over and over again every time evidence is provided that indicates god probably doesn't exist.

Freethought Association? puhleeze! All of those people probably think alike.

I'm also an atheist, but the first time I mentioned that I didn't believe in global warming or some other liberal BS I would get bashed right off of that site.

Hahaha...you're just endorsing kneejerk conformity of a different stripe.

I think you'll get bit of that everywhere you can't avoid it, you'll notice all these threads that go "how is [enter name of city]" or "will I fit in"? If you travel around the country you will notice regional difference, but it certainly isn't as drastic as going to another country. That said, I can sum it in 2 conditions for you:

1) A family oriented setting is generally less individual oriented (ie., celebrities), this is found mostly in smaller town.
2) A small town feel can also generate that of neo-individualism, in other words, an urge to move to a bigger city and indulge in the celebrity lifestyle.

One of the best gifts a parents can give their child today, is freedom - freedom from the tube and spend more time with them. At least they'll be raised by a real human being instead of drama from lalaland (ever heard of the child raised by wolves?). Personally I prefer the South cuz of it's warmer weather, which results in warmer people at times, but that's about it.
