Hi. My husband is a Structrual Fitter/Welder for a small cooler shop here in Tulsa with over 12 years experience. He has also been a Lead for 3 years, so he's got supervision experience as well. We are strongly considering moving to Alaska for the views, activities, clean air, lifestyle, etc. I have been reading conflicting information about welding jobs and I would like to hear from real people what the job market is like in the various areas of the State. He is not interested in traveling, working on the slope, or pipeline welding. He needs a stable, shop job where he can just punch the clock and be home for supper. Is a particular area any better for this line of work? Are there fabrication shops? Is there demand for welders other than pipeline? Thanks in advance!
