Hi, I am considering a job on the Kenai - most likely living in Kenai or Soldotna. I've been there before and enjoyed it, but of course I was there as a tourist and not a resident. I'd love some opinions about whether I would be able to "fit in" or not.

I am a 30 year old professional female, single, no kids. I love the mountains and rivers, but I'm not really into fishing, camping, hunting, 4-wheeling, or most of the other activities that seem to draw people to the area (I'm not completely opposed to trying them....I've just never had much opportunity.) I enjoy the outdoors, but I'm definitely not what you would call "outdoorsy." I am into traveling, dinner parties, good wine & great conversation, road trips, politics (liberal-leaning), current events, watching movies, playing board games, etc. (Wow, this is starting to sound like a personal ad, which I definitely did not intend! )

Does anyone know if there are a good number of people in my approximate age range, with similar interests? I know that I'm too old to hang out with the college students....but since I don't have children, I often don't fit it with a lot of the women my age, many of whom are busy raising families. I'd love to move to the Kenai, but not if I won't be able to make a circle of friends to hang out with! I don't want to be "that weird lady who lives alone and doesn't like fishing."

Any thoughts?

I moved here from Anchorage about 3 yrs ago and haven't had any trouble finding things to do. There are ski groups, bunco groups, volunteer opportunites, wine tastings, community school classes- all types of things to join to meet new people. Do you like to exercise? I joined a gym and did a bootcamp and met a few ladies my age that I continue to do things with. I also joined a bookclub and a bunco group- lots of different ages, but we have fun! Good luck and I think you will enjoy being away from the hustle and bustle of Anchorage!

Thanks Akgrl! That's nice to hear. It sounds like there are some fun things going on. Although, I have to admit that I needed to look up bunco to see what it is! I'm super clumsy and uncoordinated, but yeah, I like to exercise. I'll look into classes. Thanks again!
