Unemployment runs about 8%, but the jobs are there if you understand they can be seasonal or termed to the length of a specific job.

No. It may be better than a lot of other places, but most of the work is not full-time. Besides, you would have to get at the end of the long employment line for a job opening.

A lot of young people get two or three part-time jobs in order to survive the high cost of living. But this is sometimes difficult to do because of the day to day schedule changes in one of the jobs. Then most employers won't hire you full time or for more than 32 hours of work per week; this way they don't have to deal with health insurance and things like that. A lot of employers are uncertain of what will happen once Obamacare is fully implemented, and are holding back.

Employers everywhere do that.

There seem to be a few low wage jobs, paying under $10 per hour but there are also a LOT of people trying to get those jobs.

10 years ago - 5 years ago ~ even 3 years ago, Construction was a great job with good pay. Now, my husband has had to take a 40% cut in pay just to HAVE a job. It's been a hard road tightening our belts that much just to avoid foreclosure.

Yes, but it's harder for people in Alaska because of the high cost of living. We are still paying nearly $4.00 per gallon of regular unleaded in Fairbanks. And then, renting is quite expensive too. That's why it's very difficult for some people to make it up here unless they work at two or three part-time jobs. If the work schedule is good, for example, 8:00 AM -1:00 PM, one can look for a second job with a schedule of perhaps 2:00PM to midnight or so. However, most employers don't offer regular schedules. For example their business' doors are open from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and the work hours they can offer vary from day to day between 8:00 and 9:00 PM (never at the same time). Some people work seven days a week at two or three jobs, while others struggle to survive on one part-time job.

My youngest daughter and her best friend, who was also her roommate, worked two jobs after graduating from school. They worked seven days per week, and did fine.
