Where in Alaska can people buy fresh King Crab? Fresh, not cooked and frozen.

When I lived on the Chesapeake Bay, some crabbers would bring their catch to docks in SE Washington DC and customers would come and buy blue crabs by the dozen, half bushel or by the bushel.

IS their a similar practice in Alaska, and if so, where?

Thanks

New Sagaya in Anchorage has carried live king crab in the past in season. Not sure they still do it. Give them a call.

I don't believe Sitka is a good bet. No where in SE Alaska has a regular king crab opening. Rarely you can obtain it from docks.

The frozen king crab found at local Costco is from Russia.

Sitka is a good bet. And yes, I buy mine off the dock here. Nothing like fresh kings. We also get dungies here.

When the kings are getting caught, they get sold off a couple boats. Dungies are pretty easy to catch with personal pots as well as commercial boats when they are able to drop pots. Last king I had was like 2 months ago maybe. You want to bicker with articles; I don't go there.

Good for you.

Article pointed out how spotty king crab openings have been the past few years, with some years completely shut down.

For 2020, commercial golden king crab opening for SE (which includes Sitka last time I checked) was Feb 17 to March 27, with no allowed catch of blue and red.

OP, you can call this number to get more info: 1-907-465-4853.

Bristol Bay area probably your best bet.
