You have to be careful and read the fishing regulations for those rivers. For example, the Gulkana flows into the Copper River, but access to it is limited unless you can have a guide or a friend with a boat to get to a few spots along the way. A lot of the lands belongs to the Natives, and are off limits. Also, there are rules about the use of live bait in that and some other rivers. It means that you have to know the rules, and the access points to the fishing spots.

I pretty the sure the campground at the klutina freezes fish. don't know about storage. You should call them. They run charters out of there and should be able to tell you all you want to know about fishing the C.R.V.

Thanks, I'll look them up. I'm looking forward to checking the area out, last time I was there, I didn't have time to look around. Do you know if there are any active mines in the area? It would be fun to visit one.

When fishing for Silvers on POW, I use Mepps Flying C's. I have collected a good number of them, but will they work in the Copper River areas? I also have some chrome lures for pike in the lakes, if we get a chance. I grew up in South Dakota fishing Norther Pike's with them.....any recommendations on what to bring up?

I did call the Kenny Lake camp grounds and they don't have any freezers or freezer boxes.

this may be a dumb question, but what size of salmon can I expect to catch in the Copper River area?

The Copper is a very silty river. 99% of the fishing for reds is force feeding. They just stop feeding once in spawning mode,. Google Flossing for Sockeyes and you will see what i am talking about. It involves drifting flies with a weight in the current. Your lures may work in the Klut, or Gulkana for silvers later on in the summer. They more readily bite lures and the water is clearer in those rivers. Those lures will work down in Valdez too when the hatchery silvers start returning.

Reds will be 4 to 8 pounds first run, second run can be alittle bigger. Silvers will be alittle bigger yet, 8 to 15 pounds. Kings can be over 50 pounds.
