I was visiting with my neighbor who lived up in AK about 15 years ago. He mentioned that he didn't remember any trails up there. How can that be in that beautiful country?!

They are EVERYWHERE. Way too much government (BLM) land to not be. I can speak in particular about the Interior (Alaska Range to the Yukon River especially). No doubt the same for down south.

Lot's of hiking trails in my area. Not so many 4 wheeler trails. We do have atv highways in our ditches tho...and some power line and gas lines that are used as 4 wheeler trails.

In Southeast there are alot of old logging roads, but very few to no designated ATV trails.

Okay, apparently one thing the Interior has over the coastal / southern areas. Two to four hundred miles of "dedicated" trails within 60 miles of Fairbanks. And hundreds to a thousand more in varying highlands (non Muskeg) from Healy River and Isabel Pass up to Livengood and 12 Mile Summit on the Steese (and environs beyond).

The winter trails (snowmachine) probably quadruple or more the trail network, but dedicated muskeg (same trails) is no fun (imo) for an ATV in the summer. Plus alot of trail are off limits to ATVs in the summer, but opened up to snowmachines in the winter because of the less damaging footprint. Too cold for me, so not a fan.
