it seems to me that it could better benefit diabetes awareness and research if they just didn't go, saved all the money they'd spend on fuel/food/lodging, and donated it to diabetes research/awareness.
then they could spend 20 days educating schoolchildren on why they should stop eating so much junk.
i think it would probably have a much better effect. however, it would not involve lots of beer drinking and storytelling/bragging...hence it'd be hard for any self-respecting man to get behind.

that's just my long way of saying that i think this is much more about taking a trip, and that the diabetes research fundraising was just a way to help get sponsors and ease costs. and it sounds like it would be a lot of fun.

I saw a good movie the other night.. the very last statement in the movie was "what the %^&* have you done today". I liked that...

having donated time to raise money for different charitable org's...you raise more money when people see others physically putting effort into a cause to raise the money no matter what that may be...a walk-a-thon, motorcycle ride, foot race etc....maybe you should try donating your time and see how wrong your statement and belief is.

well, considering that it's my full-time job to educate children, i probably dedicate more time to raising their awareness of just about everything than anybody taking this trip. this includes diabetes and various health issues, drugs, alcohol, environmental issues/sustainability, suicide prevention, and so on.

That is going to be a brutal trip in Feb. They are going to start out in somewhat mild weather and by they time they get to Tok, the temps can be in the -50 region really quickly and most aren't going to be dressed for or expecting it.

They will be following a lot of roads, going to be rough on the machines too, lots of gravel in the track systems and such with all the road crossings...

Still would like to make the trip though, but will be working...
