I am working in Denali this summer and I am curious if I will be able to use Verizon cell phone there.

Verizon has a deal with ACS so Verizon phones work in Alaska.

What kind of phone did that girl have last summer who was lost for 4 days and finally called home from a hilltop in Denali? Can't remember if it was verizon. Don't wander off like a lot of those Denali workers. I bet they give you a big lecture about it when you get there.

Don't know why she didn't call sooner. Most would have needed a charge by then. Maybe she had it turned off and forgot she had it until she was digging through her pack...

I just can't imagine how someone could get lost in the mountains.. In a flat desert maybe, but even then the sun gives directions.

Will you be working up in the Park or down in the "Glitter Gulch" area in the lodges for the summer?

Either place, you should have a pretty enjoyable time!

There are not a lot of places inside the actual park where you can get cell reception. The lost girls were back the Savage River drainage with no reception for those first days. Finally as they got further north headed towards Healy they got reception.

I've hiked back in that Savage drainage and there are a lot of willows, tons of criss-crossed streams & wetlands. They got off on a side stream, losing their bearings. They were very unprepared for Denali.

Congrats on your job! Denali is one of my favorite places as I spend up to 5 weeks there in the summer camping, hiking, and backpacking (and NOT getting lost!)

I was being funny, I know they have no coverage back there unless you climb a peak and can get line of sight to Healy's or Denali's "Glitter Gulch" towers.

I still can't imagine how you can get lost in the mountains, they are like a road map from where you have been to where you are going.
