On the "final approach" to a landing everybody says a prayer to some God or another. Even the athiests and agnostics.

Um, I don't. I usually don't even look up from my book. Sorry, but you have no idea what anyone else is thinking.

What? The only thing I thougth in the moment before we crashed was, "Oh crap, we're gonna crash!!" The only other thing I had time to do was brace and hold on tight.

I think militant Atheists are just people who have nothing better to do than pretend like they know exactly how everything happened and force their beliefs down your throat.
I think that religious people are gullible, and that organized religion is a crock.

Now that I have successfully alienated myself from the rest of the forum let me contenue:

As much as I hate religious stuff, or "God Stuff" ... I can appreciate it. Not religious? Don't read it, don't pay attention to it... They are not FORCING religion (the bible -ugh-) on you.. They are simply providing a means for people who do believe in the bible.

Btw, not ALL the meals are bad... I had this awesome one, I think it was the hummus pack, that was delicious. For those of you lucky enough to fly up front, they have some pretty good meals up there too, even flying to Bethel they had a not-half-bad salad.

I await snide remarks and belittling now
Pretty much on the same page as you, only thing I would add is that Alaska Airlines is a private sector company, so they are free to do what they wish on this issue. Those who strongly disagree are also free to not do business with them if they choose. Yes I know about the whole "monopoly" issue, but there are other ways to travel in Alaska. And travel itself is still a choice.

Now, if AS was a government entity that would be a different story. Of course, given Alaska Air's propensity for delays and cancellations, they certainly seem to operate like a government outfit!

You know that Alaska's sister company (horizon) is #1 in the United States for On-Time performance (#5 or so in the world)

Alaska Airlines on-time performance isn't HORRIBLE either... you must realize that Alaska does have certain -- challenges.

Its hard to accept it because you are essentially forced to fly them, so when there is an issue, you associate that with AS, because you (probably) dont fly anyone else as often as you do AS.

If I fly 5 flights with AS, and 1 is delayed. I fly once on another airline, and have a great experiance. I am going to have the illusion (delusion?) that they are a better airline.

Not trying to make up for AS or to assume anything about you, but for most people this is the case.

Oh hell. Just made a reservation to fly out for a bit in a couple of weeks; I won't be eating that crap on the plane I can tell you that much. It's hard enough trying to get a drink out of the attendants these days let alone something to eat.

The idjit who said that "everyone" says a prayer of some sort upon landing does not speak for "everyone" so kindly keep your religious bs to yourself. I'd rather attribute safe landings to Darwinism.

Yeah, I often don't even notice we are landing, unless it's a fun circle/drop landing. Definitely not praying to anyone.

The flight attendants might have to be strong-armed out of a cup of water or coffee, but the customer service agents on the ground (especially in ANC, SEA, and LAX) are AWESOME and have personally seen to it that I get on sooner flights to avoid layovers. One time, I was coming back from South America, and an AK Air agent saw me sitting with my backpack, and asked me where I was coming from, and said I looked like I'd been traveling for awhile. I told her 26 hours so far, a 12 hour layover in LAX, 5 in SEA, 4 in Anchorage, then home. I was home and in bed in 6 hours--she re-routed my entire flight, and checked my backpack planeside. Now THAT is service!

When I worked for Alaska Airlines as a ramper we always went above and beyond to deliver excellent customer service. Each bag was delicately placed in the cargo hold with tender loving care.
