I just moved to AK from Michigan last week to take a building job in Salcha. I am looking for place to live. Nothing fancy, just a room with private bath. Would like to have internet access too if possible. Does anyone have anything in Salcha or North Pole area? It's just me, no pets, non-smoker, non-drinker. I have found loads of dry cabins but I guess I'm just "spoiled" from having indoor plumbing all my life, and am not interested in dealing with hauling water, etc. I've also found lots of places in Fairbanks but I would rather not have to drive 30 mins 2X/day for work.

Yeah, I am rather fond of indoor plumbing, I suffered through a winter without any once, but wasn't able to haul water. Have you checked out the bulletin boards at the diner/roadhouse? Forgot the names.

I see you have posted an ad on Craigslist, good idea. My dad's family is from Grand Rapids, really pretty trees. It's really amazing to see such huge gorgeous trees after growing up in the Fairbanks area with the spruce, poplar and birch trees. They are pretty, too, it's just a different experience in Michigan than Fairbanks.

I am from Grand Rapid, MI. Born and raised there, but this is my third time living out of state. I like to try out new places. So far, my favorite is Washington, DC. I know it's a far cry from AK but there is a certain "vibe" in the air there. Lived there for a year until i was so broke could no longer afford it.
