Hello!

I recently accepted a job in the ABQ area and am looking for housing. I really like to Nob Hill area and looked at a property in the "Silver Hills" district. I wanted to ask the locals about the safety of this location. I am a female, so I am concerned about off-street-parking at night by myself. Should I be concerned or is it mainly just college students?

Thanks in advance!

Silver Hill near UNM is where I live. I haven't had any problem so far, but there have been some concerns, mostly with homeless people sleeping o the property or prostitution which seems to go on pretty regularly, especially around Gold/Ash and around Central. If you live on Silver, Lead or Coal, I feel like those are a little safer than on Gold or closer than Central. As for parking, I'm always able to park right next to my house at night and haven't had any problems. There are a lot of college students, but also a lot of settled families, especially along Silver.

I think it depends on what you are used to where you're moving from. I consider it an "iffy" area with a lot of transients wandering around compared to most other neighborhoods. I know a single female who bought a house there several years ago and then decided to sell and move to a different neighborhood in less than a year because of safety concerns. But obviously other people like it enough to stay. It is a very convenient location. Just get good insurance.
