I'm trading vehicles before my pending move. As I picked out the shiny black car I wondered if I was doing te right thing. Is the heat and dust going to make me wish if opted for something else?
If it's like an old 1970's Oldsmobuick or VW with flat black paint and no air conditioning, would not recommend it here.
Otherwise, I see black vehicles all the time and dust doesn't seem to be that much of an issue; it's kinda medium brown and not white or sand colored; it shows up on black but it's far worse on white.
Get yourself a fold up window reflector if you leave it outside during the day and crack a window, and you should be golden.
Thanks, all. I'm going to go with the black one and a window reflector and hope for the best. If I can't handle it, I'll commandeer my husband's white car and he can have the black one.
Black car with silver interior here, and without the dark tint windows. No problems what so ever...use the silver sun shield when you park and there should be no issues
If you don't mind looking a bit odd just mask off the sides and windows of the black car and do a gloss white rattle can paint job on the hood, top and trunk lid. You could also have reflective covering put on the inside of the back window and use a reflective sun shield on the front. I still kind of like the black sides/white top idea.
Thinking about moving to NM. My current automobile is black exterior with black leather interior. I am wondering if this will be a problem in a much sunnier, hotter climate?
Do you know anyone that owns a black car? Do you see any black cars on the road? Is a sunshade going to be sufficient? (It only blocks the front window afterall).
I realize black is not the best choice in the desert but is this going to be a big enough of a problem that I should try to buy/sell/trade to get something more suitable?
Facetiously speaking, I suspect you could leave a frozen taco on the package shelf of a closed car on a summer day and have a "home" cooked meal for lunch.
You might consider painting the roof white and having reflective film put on the windows.
