With all the bad repution APS has.I was pleasantly suprised 3 Albuquerque
high schools were ranked among the best in the country. In the 2008 US NEWS and World Report America's best high schools, they analyzed academic and enrollment data from over 18,000 public schools. They placed top schools
in three catagories:100 schools were awarded gold medals.405 were awarded silver including la Cueva and Sandia high schools.and 1086 were awarded bronze including Eldorado high school.East Mountain Charter School also received a bronze Medal.Only 8.5 percent of high schools in America received
a medal.Being a transplant with 3 children from California, In the time I have been here I have always felt my children have received a good education and the teachers have also been very good.I am very happy to be out of the rat race and living in the Land of Enchantment

Great info Excal, thanks!

The rest of the good news is that APS is pouring a lot of money [$106 mil]into fixing up and/or building new schools around the whole city.

And check this out, the 87111 zip just made Sperling's list of "the most affordable suburbs that offer the lowest crime rate, finest schools, and best quality of life." 87111 is home to El Dorado, and just minutes from Sandia and La Cueva.

It probably also bears mention that much of 87111 feeds into Sandia or La Cueva's districts.

Yep, I forgot to mention that. Our HS is El Dorado, but areas just north of us are La Cueva, etc.
