I noticed this today on my drive up to Santa Fe: the sky doesn't look as bright and blue as it used to. Did I not notice this before? I lived here from 2000-2004 and had not really noticed the smog. I appreciate the bright sunny sky, it just seems like it used to be bluer.

I wasn't there today so can't answer your question, but believe me, unless things have changed a whole lot since June, Albuquerque doesn not have smog...I don't mean they have none, but not compared to really smoggy areas. There will be a haze anyplace occassionally even here in NWAr.
I was out of town (in Texas) for over a week, so I don't know what the sky looked like prior to getting back yesterday. I did notice slightly hazy conditions in Ruidoso yesterday. I think we're looking at some smoke. There are a couple of major fires in Arizona and southern California. There are also quite a few prescribed burns going on this time of year. I saw one in progress yesterday near Ruidoso. A mid-tropospheric (10-20k feet above us) high pressure system is centered over northern Arizona. The clockwise circulation around this feature is sending smoky air from southern Arizona and southern California northward into Nevada, then eastward into Colorado, and southward into New Mexico. This too shall pass...and the deep, blue New Mexico sky that we all love will favor us once again.
Today was a real pretty day. I am glad I moved back... wonder why I ever left.
