According to KOB 4 news burglaries in Albuquerque are up 21% last month. I imagine it's a sign of the times and this lagging economy is starting to put pressure on those that can't go the right way. Anyway, They used Ladera on the west side as an example. 40 break-ins in that area alone. Just a heads up to take another look at what you're doing right or wrong to minimize your exposure to this. On another note, the city just blew a load of cash on a new machine to remove gum from sidewalks one offending piece at a time. You can't say we aren't trying!

I am so happy to hear the mayor is still finding ways to spend money in this economy. Just think, some company made a profit this month....

Our house has a full alarm system that the previous owners installed and we're having it upgraded this afternoon by ADT.

FWIW, ADT is largely revamping our system, installing a completely new processor and control keypads, repairing some
defective window sensors, etc., etc. AT NO COST TO ME as long as I took a 3 year contract at $33 a month. I'm also
having some additional capabilities added that I WILL pay for myself, (we're having a sunroom added) , but the basic
package was @ $400 a year for 3 years.

Of course the cheapest way to secure your home is to steal the "Brinks" sign off your neighbor's lawn...

The savages are out in full force, I'm afraid. I can bear personal witness to it. The police say this is normal, because thieves are looking for people who have shopped early for Xmas this year, and are looking for 'goodies' that are in plain sight.

The New Mexico siege mentality must be heightened.

mike0421: You're the first person I thought of when I was listening to the story. I was going to mention you in my original post but decided it wasn't my place.

Mike Horrell: If I were in the country, I'd go the Jeff Foxworthy route: Hang an engine of a tree and permanently park an old pickup with an NRA sticker on it cause as he says: "Buddy, that's a house where a gun lives.". They used to have those "Insured by Smith & Wesson" that I always thought was quite clear.

I like to not have a sign, but instead keep a pet bengal tiger in the house.

Security & entertainment wrapped up in one.

Ummm. I'm a dues paying member of the anti-PC squad, but the term 'savages' is bound to raise a few eyebrows in these parts. I'm just sayin'.
