I grew up in upstate New York and learned about "Lake Effect Snow" and "Alberta Clippers". I didn’t mind because I didn't know there were alternatives. Eventually we moved to southern New Hampshire and learned about Nor'easter ice storms. This was just part of winter until a few years ago. Now our bodies are starting to hurt when it gets cold and/or damp. Right now my hands do not want to type because the fingers are very stiff. It was 7 deg this morning and is forecasted to drop 20 deg colder by the end of the week.
This, along with much lower heating costs, is why I want to at least snowbird to New Mexico after I retire in 2 or three years. I figure it will get chill but not real cold in the Mid Rio Grande region and I will have a nice place to write without having to spend $350 per month for minimal heat.
Keep posting the news about the relatively mild weather. I am slowly eroding Anne’s resistance.
Hey bradly, what does the "34th largest, soon 32nd" mean in your location?
You're most welcome, ziaAirmac! Good, concerned parents should never sell themselves short!
Albuquerque is currently the 34th largest city it droped to 34th after being 33rd after Atlanta Passed us, Soon Albuquerque will be the 32nd largest passing Tucson.. Housing Growth will be the cause of this.. our Populaton is still on the rise, since we are one of the rare cities still building homes..

Yep, and now that daggone, cold air is forecast to even make it down here, to relatively mild MD. If I was the prez the first thing I'd do is have everyone north of the Mason/Dixon point their fans north and turn them on high. Blow all that cold air back where it belongs. Not to mention all that energy usage would create some extra heat...

In our area, we had 3 inches of snowfall last night (before last night we were at 44 inches total since Dec. 1), and we are to get another 2-to-4 inches of snowfall late tonight into tomorrow.
Yet, the real story is the unbelievably cold temps combined with ultra dangerous wind chills - currently 6 degrees outside.

I think I'd rather buy a pair of dentures, put them in backwards, and slowly chew myself to death.
