Hi-

Are there any trains in Santa Fe or ABQ etc...that offer holiday rides where they read the "Polar Express" to the kids, give hot chocolate etc...I've heard there is one up in Durango that does something similar to this, but we don't feel like driving three hours up to Durango especially in December.

Nothing that I'm aware of in ABQ. I believe your two main options would be Durango or Chama. We took our kids to the Durango trip in 2007, and they had a ball. I personally would rather take the drive up 550 (usually a piece of cake) vs. a trip to Chama in December.

Chap

Thanks...we just moved here from AZ...there's a train in Winslow AZ, that goes to the Grand Canyon and they do a "Polar Express" train all Dec, but you have to get you tickets a year in advance because it's so popular...I'll look into the Chama train...thanks

The Durango & Silverton Railroad does the Polar Express. It's beautiful country up there and only a 3 1/2 hour drive away. The dates this year are from November 20th - December 28th. Here's the info:

Kids are encouraged to wear pajamas. Hot chocolate & cookies will be served. This is in Colorado right across the NM border

ETA: Just reread your post saying you didn't want to drive to Durango. It's worth the trip!!!
