For those that find themselves on the section of I-40 East of the Big-I, it's hard to miss the addition of a large building with water slides jutting in and out of it at the Radission. Well, I had the opportunity to get a look at what's going on, and let me tell you, it's going to be a real addition to the family entertainment choices in Albuquerque. It's way beyond two slides going into a big pool. There are multiple water features, the likes of which can't be found in Albuquerque now. There's top notch sound, lighting, theater screens, a mezzanine that will have food options for vacationers. It connects to your room by sky bridge, so you don't even need to go outside the hotel to enjoy it. And because it's got a successful hotel behind it I think it will have more longevity than the ill fated 'The Beach'.

I've seen the work only from the outside. Pretty impressive. Intially I thought the project was just talk and never get built, bit it might work out.

The official word (from the desk clerk) is that they're putting on the finishing touches and it should be open by the beginning of March.

(I think he meant 2010, but as signs in the past have demonstrated, the month can be guaranteed but the year may slip a bit..)

Some kids from a friend of mine were able to swim in the water park while filming rolled for a commercial. I saw the pictures she took and it all looks really cool on the inside. My teenage daughter wanted to have a sleepover birthday party there last year (her birthday is in April). The hotel kept pushing the date back later and later. My daughter kept waiting saying she'd just have her party later in the summer. Well, summer ended and it was still not open. FINALLY it is almost ready and her birthday will be here again in 3 months.

I wonder if their rooms will still be available to bid on at Priceline and hotwire once the water park opens.

good to hear it should be nice, its about time that we got some sort of water park, even though little ol Amarillo and Lubbock have one, but at least their's is outdoor, it dont make much sense to swim indoors in a desert with that warm high elevation sun beating down at 95 degrees, but we will take what we can get I guess.

The water park will only be open to hotel guests for the first several months.

To be honest, I'm not sure it will ever be open to anyone but guests. I think it's meant more like a 'vacation in your own town' destination for locals, ie: take the weekend, get a room and swim to your heart's content. The reason I say that is because an entire building of rooms is going to be devoted to waterpark package people, and it's a big building. I think the addition of 'daily' folks would quickly overwhelm it's capacity. As for the indoor design, I'm personally excited about the idea of enjoying a weekend of water time with my girls whether is summer or winter.

The thought of making it exclusive enough to keep the gangbangers and $300-summer-pass-is-cheaper-than-a-babysitter-kids out brings a smile to my face. Every water park has those patrons, and they are paying customers too, but the Beach seemed very unappealing to me for this sort of reason.

Hopefully they'll keep the water park open to hotel guests during morning, noon, and night.
