I typically go for an IPA but have been branching out and trying different styles.

So I am looking for the best beer for the buck. I live in Columbus, GA area so I know sometimes smaller local breweries don't distribute that far. There are a few craft beer stores in the area that usually have a pretty good selection. Any style, <$8 / 6 pack. Go.

Trader Joe's has some decent ones for under $8. I believe their Stockyard Oatmeal Stout (actually brewed by Firestone Walker) is $5.99 for a sixer.

Agree with the Trader Joe's recommendation. I can't think of anyplace else where you'll get quality beer in a 6-pack for less than $8. Mission St. Pale Ale and IPAs are good, so is the Trader Joe's Dunkelweizen.

If you're willing to buy a case at a time, you could also check out Costco, which sometimes carries Stone and Lagunitas cases, among others.

Costco is a good way to go if you can. They always have at least one local option (usually Two Brothers and Goose Island in Chicago area) and then have a few mixed cases fromlarger breweries like Sierra Nevada, New Belgium, or Sam Adams. Prices range between $19-23, it's the best deal I've found.

Some states have laws that say they can't require you to buy a membership to buy alcohol (or use their pharmacy).

If you purchase in bulk at most liquor stores (like a case - 4 6 packs) you will get a discount.

Do they sell beer in grocery stores in Georgia? I check the weekly grocery fliers for specials. I'm not sure if it's craft beer but I saw you mentioned Sam Adams in another thread & at least in Wisconsin they'll sometimes have a sale where you can buy a 12 pack of Sam Adams for $11.99. Sierra Nevada as well, which I think is a great beer. Grocery stores will also have deals such as buy a pound of cheese or some hamburger & get a few bucks off a 12 pack of local craft beer.

I'm sure any liquor store will have weekly specials though that you could check out.

Out in Arizona between Sprouts and Total Wine (a beer, wine, liquor superstore) I can usually find a few great choices under $8 a six pack. My go to IPA's in that category and in no particular order are Sierra Nevada Torpedo, Uinta Hop Nosh, Full Sail IPA and a couple of local Arizona brews. If I watch the ads a few grocery stores around Phoenix will have Full Sail for $5.99 a six pack.

Under 8 is tough but if you can spare $9/sixer, you have several more options, namely Sierra Nevada Torpedo, which you can get at Target and WalMart (not that friends let friends shop at WalMart).
