John Courage was (is?) an English beer that became my favorite back in college when I was waiting tables at one of those "we have 200 different beers" places. Not sure if it's still around, but I haven't seen it in years.

Pete's Wicked Ale was pretty good too.

Carling Black Label was $1.19 a six pack when I was in college. Cheap, and tasted... Ugh. But at 20 cents a can, well, what one will do for fun. Now brewed by Miller.

I can only think of three that haven't already been mentioned.
Ballantine
Old Style
Beck's in the clear bottle I used to bring back from the Caribbean. It is no longer produced.

They have a bock beer in the spring which is halfway decent and dirt cheap for a case.

Schmidt's
Ballantine
Schaefer

As a kid, the three rings of Ballantine seemed classy.

And once a month, the Family sat down at the TV 11:30 on a Saturday to watch "Schaefer Award Theatre", they broadcast some of the best movies of the day.

Stroh's is still being made? Haven't seen it for years.

I liked Pearl a lot. A local store would order a couple cases for me, but not since the company's demise a few years ago.

National Bohemian is enjoying a resurgence in popularity locally, but I never cared for it. I liked National Premium, and a guy tried re-introducing it to the market recently, but I don't think it went over very well.

I wish that the Carlberg Brewery would bring back the Light Deluxe lager that they imported here in the late '70's-'80's.

We used to call Boh "gutter p***," even the original recipe from the National Boh brewery. Premium was good but never as popular as Boh, obviously because of the price difference.

Recall when the brewery went on this huge marketing campaign, selling quart-sized bottles, three for $1. Yep, the equivalent of eight beers for a buck; that was dirt cheap even in 1962. Senior prom night, I chugged three of them before the prom, then did the "Twist" all night long.

A-1 beer, a Phoenix-brewed pilsner from the 1930s through 1985. Sponsor of the Phoenix Suns' radio broadcast.
