Is anyone aware of any specific food groups or natural alternatives that they can suggest in assisting with lowering a high blood platelet count.

I have been diagnosed with Essential Thrombocythemia and put on Hydrea, but would like to explore a more natural way to bring my platelet level down.

thanks

I am newly diagnosed with Essential Thrombocythemia. The want me to take hydroxyurea and verbally claimed the patients they have on this drug have essentially no side effects. So I picked up the script and read the side effects, plus went to http://www.askapatient.com/viewrating.asp?drug=16295&name=HYDREA and read their experiences with side effects. I am not comfortable taking this drug and am holding off to find a natural alternative. So far this is what I've found, but note I am still looking for people who have actually tried natural methods to know if they work or not. To decrease platelets: Quinine [found in tonic water]; cranberry juice, Jui Tea, Mediterranean Diet To decrease Platelet aggregation [clotting]: pomegranates; Omega-3 Fatty Acids like fish oil; fish, white meat, Red Wine, diet soda, bitter lemon, bitter melon
