Is there anything equivalent to a "garage town" in anchorage. Would love to have a large garage to work in with out having to buy the half million dollar home attached to it.

There are some behind home depot on abbott but they are sold out. They cant put that bridge in soon enough. Perhaps the time has come to try to negotiate a modified work schedule so that I can live outside of anchorage.

IIRC the garage condos or whatever they are behind home depot start at like $50k. You can build a bigger metal building on your own land for that kind of money.

I have lots of friends with large garages or shops, and none are a half mill. Your money goes further as you get out of town.

Yea, that's what I was thinking. I need to start pricing land in the valley. I know arctic fox can put up a large metal frame building for around 30-40k which includes a concrete floor and all the utilities. I would also need a 550 volt drop for some of the science experiments I want to do too. I am still thinking about doing an aircraft hangar at Wasilla airport but then the city owns your building but since I own a plane that could be a double advantage. Plus not all land has power/natural gas/water, even though its a shop I would need power and heat and would want a small bathroom since I live in anchorage and would be spending at least half a day or a day out there. Also the airport is secure from the meth heads and punk kids who like to vandalize things out in the valley.

I could do most of the work for my experiments in my apartment and then just do certain things at the shop/hangar.

Seems as soon as you cross the kink bridge everything goes down more than an order of magnitude. Spending the gas kinda sucks but im not living at my shop so I could buy multiple life times worth of gas for hundreds of thousands I would save not doing anything in anchorage. Commuting out there EVERY day would be a nightmare but just going out to the shop when I wanted too would not be bad at all.

Those garages behind home depot are up to 170k, I emailed the builder who is getting ready to build a phase 3, I said no thank you. I told him that is about 300% more than I wanted to spend.

I have heard of 3 phase 480v, but not 550v.

What is that used for?

Do you cause a brown out when you use them?

Than sounds like an awful lot of power.

Not sure yet, its all just in my head so far. I have put together a complete supplier list to get it constructed but have not done any testing yet.
