Until you're the one stuck behind the fool who can't get out of the gutter because they're driving a Honda Fit.

It's tempting to bring the Fit. We won't though. Thank you for the dealer suggestions!

Not an issue if you don't go into the gutter. Driver mod.

Saw a Honda Fit on base yesterday... Roads on base are worse than the roads to get to base, including the back street local roads around here. I see tons of FWD compact cars too...

A lot of it has to do how you drive. Studs, snow tires, AWD, ABS, yaw control, etc... can't replace common sense. Now I couldn't drive my truck without 4WD in a lot of places, I try and then end up having to go into 4WD. I am at the point now where I can tell whether it will be a 4WD day or not.

Good luck with whatever you decide is right for you.

We're in the valley and have driven a Toyota Yaris (essentially the same car as the Fit) through two winters with no problems. Put studded tires on it in the winter and don't be stupid. At the very least I'd drive the Fit up here- better gas mileage for the long trip- and keep it around for when you want to go to Homer or Fairbanks in the summer.
