I was reading this link on one of AOL's stories. Strange, it mentions that the 19-year old who was attacked by the bear walking home in Eagle River was in his yard when he heard what he thought was salmon in the creek and how he boxed the bear. Story differs from the ADN story. Not surprising.

What you've got is a bunch of braindead people that I think because they live in a city they don't have wildlife wandering around. Anchorage is not like any other city. And neither is Eagle River. Just a little common sense might have spared most of these attacks. Like the lady that disregarded the bear warning sign and took off down the trail anyway. Or the 18 year old walking along at what...1 or 2 am near a salmon stream.
With the influx of newbies into Anchorage...that are clueless to the extent of wild critters that can migrate into town...I think we're going to see this each and every summer.
And morons that have trash sitting out, or dog food, or bird feeders...may as well hang welcome signs for bears.
Even in more remote places like Russian River...where you have greenhorns out fishing the river at midnight...are just plain asking for trouble. This ain't Kansas people. Use you noggin for something more than plugging in earbuds.

The people who amaze me are those who call the police at 11 at night because there's a bear in their driveway. Yeah? So? Go back in the house.

Well...this 'moron' learned fairly quickly thanks to the kind folks here that a birdfeeder or two out in summer is not a good thing

I think the more populated areas will have trouble with feeders. I feed my birds year around. The recent sow with 2 cubs that swung by last week never even came close to the feeder. I have it located well away from the house but within view of the living room windows. These were the first bears I've had at the house (that I knew of) in 4 or 5 years. I never put more than a cupfull of seeds on it at a time. And I have to do that 3 or 4 times a day to keep up with the birds. I never have more than the one kitchen bag of trash at my house and it goes to the dump station as soon as it's full. My dog lives at the neighbors and I never have food out for her unless she comes to visit me.

That's nice...I did that exact thing...but only cause our neighbors (who have lived in Alaska forever) told us to, because the bear tried to come through their bedroom window. Oh well!

Burglar or Bear, coming in my window? I'm gonna have "Faith" in one hand and "Gloria" in the other. And the Redhead be behind me, with the Coach Gun just in case I miss with the double six.

Had a 94 Year Old Woman here is SoCal let loose on a Burglar coming in her home. Coupl'a shots out of her PISTOLA. She missed the bassturd! He got away with her watch and purse! He was that close to her!

Now I've always said, the chances of lead, hitting the mark in the dark, be it Man or Beast, are slim at least, with that kind of piece, unless yer a PISTOLERO.

Now the Shottie I say, is the way to play, when the others ain't fair, or just don't care. Two out the tube, and many a boob, never got up off the ol parquet.

Rules are rules. Drop em in the house and ya have a chance of pulling it off with the LE or DFG.

Got to be Bear smart in Bear Country. A lot of "oops" and "I didn't know".

Now where the heck did I put my "Welcome to Alaska Manual", I'll have to re read it to find out how to stay on top of the food chain. I hope it's in chapter 7, I liked chapter 7 because after all, chapter 7, 8 9.

Morning Alaska!

What really amazes me it that people will be wearing an "Ipod" with both earplugs in and the volume turned up and can't hear anything that is going on around them... Bad enough in town and traffic, but in the woods where large critters are, that is just stupid...

In Denali Park, bears everywhere and these clowns are hiking the trails without a clue to where, what is around them or who and couldn't hear a Fog horn go off... with the "Ipod" turned up loud enough I can hear it and I am half deaf....
