As long as the proportions are correct- it won't look goofy.

I recall seeing a plan for a potting shed that was "salt box" inspired-

And there was also a plan floating around for a "cabin" that was also salt box shaped. The upper area was a loft for the bed reached by ladder. But again, it looked great because the proportions were correct.

You're right; as long as the proportions are correct, it looks fantastic. I've been taking some more time to research these, with the plan being to someday build one on our acreage, replacing the older house we have now. I would like tall windows on the short-roof side, facing south. We'll see.....
