Wow. A whopping 17 cases in Arizona since 1986.

I'm a LOT more worried about who the Cardinals are going to pick in the draft.

Doesn't sound all that new and is definitely rare

Sounds like it's merely an "awareness" memo put out by Mayo & the CDC for other medical providers to help with the accurate diagnosis and treatment

44 cases worldwide that are known in the prior 57 years and still less than 1 per year in AZ over the prior 25

As the article states, with awareness will come more proper diagnosis and treatment ..... the numbers should go up if they are looking for it........ even with an increase it will still be very rare with generally favorable outcomes all considered

Exactly! It's an interesting case but it's obvious the OP didn't read the entire article and overreacted.

And to be honest, nothing will change in terms of practice. In any colorectal cancer case, all masses are sent for biopsy so the pathologists will deduce quickly what it is. So if someone should develop this mass, they will go through the same routine of obtaining a colonoscopy, surgical resection with biopsy and postoperative treatment with antifungals in which the patient should respond quite well unless the patient is severely immunocompromised prior to developing the condition.

It isn't a "new" infection, nor would I say it has "emerged" in Arizona. One more thing NOT to overreact to.

But one the " the air pollution crowd"(ie hypochondriacs) will obviously overreact to. It's coming just wait, the anti-AZ crowd are going to now discuss air pollution, asthma, allergies, skin cancer, cocci and now this. LOL They don't understand that more people are affected by fractures due to weather related conditions in cold weather states than all of these rare conditions in Arizona combined.
