Does Arizona require vehicles to have both front and rear license plates on cars?

It depends on the type of plate. But for most of them - no. Motor Vehicle Division

An exception, AzDr . . . the MVD continues to issue two PLP's (Personal License Plates) even though only the rear plate is required.

Not certain exactly why but . . . ! ! ! ! ! !

Do you mean personalized plates? If not personalized, they issue single plates only for most others.

Passing through Patagonia, Arizona, I got pulled over and got a warning because my car didn't have the front license plate, the cop told me both back and front plates are required in AZ... is this true? can I challenge the warning?

Does your state require you to have 2 plates? In AZ only one plate at the rear is required under normal registration requirements. Specialized plates you're usually issued 2.

No. Arizona stopped requiring front plates in the mid 1990s to save money from having to produce 2 plates per vehicle. For whatever odd reason, the DMV (MVD in Arizona) will give you two plates if you request personalized license plates, but you're still not required to display a front plate.

Beto, do you have AZ plates? If so, you shouldn't have been stopped for no front plate. If you have out of state plates and come from a two plate state, I would still find it extremely odd that an Arizona law enforcement officer would cite you for not having front plates. If it's not the law for cars registered in Arizona, why would they care about that issue for cars registered in other states?

Challenge it no matter what.

Kinda weird, Beto . . . is your vehicle registered in Arizona and running Arizona plates?
