Might be moving to San Carlos, Arizona or Whiteriver, Arizona...could anyone give me as much information as possible about these two towns. You name it, I want to know...everything from housing, entertainment, rodents, community life...etc. Pictures are welcomed too! Thanks!

What is bringing you there? Those are both very small towns in eastern Arizona. Not much in terms of entertainment, I suspect, rodents no more or less than a lot of other places. Housing, etc., I will leave to others.

There's a big casino there on the reservation, not much else. Globe is kind-of nearby...

Hello...I too am interested in housing around the Whiteriver area. Thinking of applying for a teaching job in Whiteriver. Any information regarding housing, restaurants, crime, personalities of people would be appreciated. Thanks.

Whiteriver has white moutian apache's and san carlos has ... san carlos apache. Are you planning on renting from a native? I doubt they allow non-natives to rent on tribal land.

What are the prospects for a family of 4 (two kids, one 12 & one 4) finding rentals in the area of Whiteriver? We are a non-native white family. We get along with people of all incomes & races. We are friendly, quiet and polite. I would love to apply for a federal job there, but want to make sure I could find housing within a reasonable commute to work for the BIA... Anyone??? Also, please private message me with any opinion/facts that are negative in nature, as I want to know the TRUE prospects of what we might face moving there, and I don't want to start flame/race wars, etc online.

Any help is greatly appreciated by all those who have opinions/facts on what we might face, especially both my girls in school! Thank you!

Whiteriver was scary 5 years ago and 5 years before that it was just as scary. I don't know how it is now. There are a lot of open minded natives in Whiteriver but most of them are not. If you are not Hispanic or Apache they don't want you there. Whites and Navajos are largely not welcome.

I honestly would talk to the BIA about housing in the area for non-natives. Why not live in Pinetop and not deal with the reservation drama?

Pinetop, Show no, Lakeside, any of those areas would be fine as far as I can tell without any insiders knowledge, and way easy commute it looks like on the map.. Probably anything within a 20 mile radius would be just fine by me to live... the job itself is just in Whiteriver. I applied earlier today and the prospects of moving there for what sounds like the perfect job for me, is exciting! Thank you for the info! I really don't want to step on anyones toes move in where we're not wanted, but would definitely work there, and hopefully open some closed minds... and if not, then I'll just try and co-exist peacefully!
