I hope no one is offended by my question, but when thinking of places that are safe and welcoming to western travelers and tourists in the Middle East and North Africa, UAE is often at the top of the list,
however, unlike Turkey, Jordan, Tunisia, and Morocco, all which are often at the top of list in this regard, but are well known to be rich in history, architecture, archaeology, bazaars, traditional living experiences, etc. the Persian Gulf countries have a strong association as being ultra modern, glitzy, glamorous, "more money than people know what to do with", were tiny fishing/pearl oyster villages until oil was discovered.
Is there ANY ancient or medieval history and structures, traditional bazaars on historic streets, camel riding/camping in the desert, etc. Again, please I'm not trying to stereotype or show my Westerner: "I want my Indiana Jones experience in the 21st century" I'm just curious if there is any traditional, exotic culture of history there, or is it all space, over the top consumerism in places like Dubai or Abu Dhabi?
