Have been to Phi Phi in February 2012, are you kidding me the place was overcrowed, kinda dirty, really had to watch out when swimming because of the motorboats.
Maybe this place was great a decade ago but not anymore my friend.
Yeah Phi Phi is really crowded...and crowds spoil even the most pristine of places after awhile. It's still a beautiful place, however, and Phuket in general is large enough there are places one can get away from the crowds. I consider it part of Phuket basically.
Actually planning on going to Bali soon, it's far more than Kuta.etc, I'm fascinated by it's unique culture.
Koh Samui is nice but quite touristy (I personally preferred Koh Phangan).
Still a good place to relax though.
