A 29 year-old American woman driver caused chaos in Pattaya, Thailand yesterday by driving on the wrong side of the road and crashing into 12 cars and a motorbike before police forced the vehicle to stop by shooting out its tyres. American woman driver causes Sunday chaos | Bangkok Post: learning
In Thailand, they drive on the left like they do in the UK.
Pattaya has a lot of legit tourism, and the Thailand Tourism has been promoting it as, and adding things for family tourism. Pattaya is more than just Walking Street. Edit: The original story I saw on a differnt site said the driver was Russian, but that could've been early misreporting. I don't know what side they drive on in Russia, but that would make a lot more sense, since Pattaya is a huge family destination for Russians.

What the...!! Most people would have stopped immediately after hitting the bus! According to the article, she continued driving for a full 30 minutes more, going down the wrong side of the street...??? Sounds like a bit of exaggeration. I mean, that video was only 40 seconds of her doing that, and the driving was already erratic and crazy enough.
Not sure why the writer found it necessary to call her a "woman driver" in the headline, as if her sex had anything to do with what happened. It looks like the page you linked to is written for Thai people trying to learn English, which means the article is probably trying to reflect the pre-feminist values of Thailand.

Maybe for the same reason countless news stories mention "man" or "male" when referring to a shooter, or robbery. It's just part of being descriptive or complete in a story. Anyway, I regard this as a 'non-issue'....as in, so what.
Americans drive by the rules more than many drivers in Asia.

The very first thing I learned about driving in Thailand -- aside from obvious things like driving on the left -- I learned in one of the huge Bangkok traffic circles. Forget about things like courtesy and how it works in America. Figure out what the Thais do and copy that!
