For years, kibbutzim have been a part of Israel's culture and economy. They were run on variations of leftist socioeconomic principles, and some of modern Israel's early leaders were born or lived of them (Moshe Dayan, for one). However, most of them have adopted free market ideas. How much influence do kibbutzim still have in Israel politics?

Nearly all are business parks or enterprises now and not the communal areas they were in the past. A current kibbutz is no different than a current city. There are a minor few that follow the old ways, but they more for show for tourists.

I'm Catholic and I spent 6 months on Kibbutz Maagan Michael. 90% of the practices of most Kibbutzim are the same as they were before the state was founded.

Here are the differences:

No more communal child rearing like the old days. Parents raise their kid in their home.

Pocket money is distributed now, all money used to be forbidden.

Some Kibbutzim have opened non industrial/agrarian businesses but the communal model is still the same

You can work off the kibbutz and reside there as a member, but you give your earnings to the Kibbutz and it becomes part of the communal pot.

Most of the privatization differences are legal status things that don't have much bearing on daily life.

1400 people are communal? You went to the Ulpan camp. Not the real world.
