All Asian countries have low deaths. Those with relatively higher deaths often have more connections with western countries, except for China.

Asian countries have hardly been testing their population for COVID-19. No tests, no cases to report. No cases to report, no COVID-19 related deaths. The good ol' respectable policy of "What you don't know won't harm you".

Well let's put it this way - similar sized and geographic location Thailand has about 2,500 cases, Philipinees about 5,000 cases, Singapore about 2,500 cases. Oh and North Korea has zero cases and of course China's numbers are suspect.
What do China, N. Korea, and Vietnam have in common? I don't need to say.

I love Vietnam but of course they are lying through their teeth. All the health numbers are reported from one source - the government. I don't think Covid19 is a particular problem there however, because of the warm climate in most of the country, and in spite of their limited testing they can likewise exercise draconian controls over their population. But don't be deceived by the numbers.

Countries aren't the same just because they're closeby...my country has 3 times less cases per million than our northern neighborhood and 7 times less cases per million than other south-east neighbor. In fact the southeast (Turkey) is criticized for totalitarism and faking news, yet they seem worse.

The proximity wasn't really what I was getting at, the political structure is. Of course Vietnam and China are nothing like N. Korea, but they all have something else in common - a unitary one party state with a lack of a free press. i.e. - no checks and balances.

I think Vietnam cases are way too low, even if by aggressive quarantining, they have mo deaths, it makes no sense.

What I find interesting, though, is the fact that people slam China for concealing numbers, but mainstream media praises Vietnam for its strong measures, when it is even more likely to be concealing numbers...

Yes, except for China whose fake-ass figure no one with a brain should buy.
