Hello everyone, I am looking for information for a future move to Thailand, more precisely around Phuket, with my wife. We would like to move at the end of the year to enjoy our retirement, far from the Parisian mess. I would have liked to know if among you, some people had moved in thailand and by what system did you send your personal belongings such as furniture, paintings.
Thank you for your help.
Thomas.

My first thought is that your wife will hate Phuket, and the tropical climate will destroy your furniture and your paintings.

Pirate Island is a tourist trap. Moving lots of personal items is a costly mistake. Customs is a nightmare...possibly worse than Immigration. I just sold my second home here in Chiang Mai...may buy a third near Bangkok.

Try www.thaivisa.com...just be aware that the posters are often much older than you might think.

Just curious, what are some of the factors that led you sell a home in Chiang Mai for another in BKK?

Too many foreigner...LOL. Chiang Mai is a very special place. There are many positives. It is just growing too fast. I can avoid the traffic, but the winter air is nasty, with no help on the horizon. Litter and trash are also problematic. Rats! That is something that has been better addressed in BKK. I have also missed out on seeing some friends, who travel to BKK occasionally on business from the States. I am looking mostly in Nonthaburi, along the new MRT, and a little bit less crowded Immigration office, which sucks up here, and is just a bit better in BKK. Also interested in some teaching work, and nothing remotely close here..just too many want to live here in CM. Requires a different visa. Right now, just completing my deal and selling some stuff. Another warning to the OP: wine taxes are pure insanity, here! When all is said and done..I have spent four years here, and have as much as I came with..free rent, trading stocks, managing accounts..I guess it is work, but I never had a job.

I too shall be relocating to Thailand. Should I be concerned that my extensive wine collection and post expressionist paintings might be compromised by the heat and humidity of my new home? Relocating is so nerve wracking.
