about the recent Air France tragedy. When the Hudson River landing happened, that was "the hand of God", "God's miracle", and all the other platitudes that they spew when skill, dumb luck and good old fashioned **** happens result in nobody dying.

Now that 228 souls appear to be fish food off Brazil, I'm wondering what God was doing with that hand when those people needed him most.

That is because God obviously had a higher purpose and wanting them recalled to his wonders... Haven't you read enough posts to know this by now ? Ye of little faith...

Mysterious ways blah, blah, blah... Miracle when it goes right, mysterious ways when it goes wrong. A win-win explanation for all circumstances. Convenient and easy to sweep under the carpet under the guise of "we don't understand why God does what he does".

How about Natural disasters ( do you think God could have made the earth better, let's face it if it was a product you would sue the manufacturer for little things like Earthquakes, Volcanic eruptions, Floods, Landslides, etc , pestilence, cancer, malaria, AIDS etc.. etc.... ) None of these man-made , no question of free will there yet this wonderful loving Father lets it happen to his children without the slightest sign of contrition or reparation ...

You and I are obviously intellectually too challenged, too dim and spiritually devoid to appreciate the master-plan in all those events .

Let's not forget the abused spouse syndrome:

"How could you imply that this disaster makes god evil!! God created us so he can do whatever he wants to us, no matter how horrible a thing it is, and still be 100% good and just"

Putting it this way makes me think that religion is the the grandest case of stockholm syndrome.

I have often felt that way too. Perfect and very apt comparison really.

I'll say it.

God wanted it to happen. Why? No idea. He is in charge of everything, and he wanted it to happen--or it wouldn't have happened.

Silly me, I was assuming that it was probably a mechanical malfunction.

Would that be the reasoning for all the other evil, pain and destruction in the world? The reason people don't believe in god? "He is in charge of everything and wanted it to happen". What an example of your loving god.
