We're pretty new to the area and wanted to get some opinions on where we should go. We live in Milton so the max drive would be about an hour. Lake Lanier is the closest, but the reviews didn't seem very good. We'll have 5 boys ranging from 6-15 years. Thanks!!

Six Flags White Water: Atlanta

From the descriptions given I'd take my chances on Lake Lanier Islands. I thought Stone Mt had added some water features but didn't see that in the review. If it is hot and from the reports some hot weather is on the way --I don't know that the boys would enjoy Stone Mt as much as the others. It is nice in the fall.

Six Flags might be good --I haven't heard anything negative.

ETA: Here's a previous thread about activities for kids in north Atlanta--you might find a few additional ideas>>>

Amicalola Falls isn't much further--that might be fun.

We go to White water with season passes and my boys love it. There's something for all ages and you stay cool on hot days.

White Water would be the closest to Milton, only about 20 minutes. I didn't think Lake Lanier Islands was worth the price when I took a bunch of kids.

I have neighbors who also do the season tickets to White Water. They tell me the secret is to get there early, so you have the chance to stake out a good spot. The lockers are expensive ($16.00), so if you can avoid using them, do. No outside food allowed in. I think you can get discount tickets at Publix.

Wow... I must commend you on raising them that long. I'm not a mother, but I must give you a lot of credit. Oh, and a preference of mine is White Water. Lake Lanier is a bit overrated. Six Flags can get pricey (at least for a college student who'd rather buy books and intangibles). There are a lot of other state parks around Atlanta, mostly in North GA. You're a lot closer to them since you're in Milton.

I'd vote for White Water as well. With the heat around here these days, it's a great place to cool off. Lake Lanier water park is nice, but it's smaller than White Water. It'd be nice if you were planning a 'picnic' day. Stone Mountain is nice for visiting and walks/hikes, but every attraction costs (unless you get the pass) - not as entertaining for a group of 'men'!

Hey,

I'm looking for something to do this weekend with my wife, we were thinking of taking a drive up to Lake Lanier. What is there to do there? We just want to spend the day, drive up late morning, come home in the evening. Thanks!

Georgia Lakeside Resort: Lake Lanier Islands Resort in Georgia

The drive to Buford Dam/recreation area is nice--45 minutes or so. You could take a picnic lunch and eat there and walk around.

Places to eat and other fyi>>>
