Help! The lights come on, the screen is blank, and it goes off and on every couple minutes.

Any suggestions for things to try or good computer repair shops to try in the Atlanta Metro?

Thanks!

Hook it up to a external monitor and if you get video on it and it doesn't go out, you know you have a LCD problem. Otherwise you probably have a bad motherboard.

I tried to hook it up to an external monitor and it still didn't work. I come on this morning, but when I shut it down, it wouldn't come up again.

I have taken the battery out and unplugged it. I then held down the on button for 60 seconds. Still in not working. I read about these remedies on some fixit boards.

Any other thoughts? Thanks!

If it doesn't work on another monitor it isn't screen that is the problem. We had that happen and it was just as cheap to get a new laptop (cheap version) as replace the screen on the laptop.

Try GeekSquad. I know it sounds dorky, but I've used them in the past for network setup and for repairs on several machines, and they're generally very knowledgable and reasonably priced.

It sounds like it's overheating, what kind of laptop is it?

Thanks! I'll try them if I don't have any luck with any home remedies.

If it's actually powering on and off it is most likely a system board. If it's just the screen going black, then it's probably a video problem.
