Hi,

Does anyone know anything about the great old brick building at the corner of Hollowell / Bankhead and English Ave? I had been told that it was a Carnegie Library, then someone else said it was an old trolley terminal. An online search didn't turn up any mention of a Carnegie (or any other library) in that spot, so I'm not sure.

Regardless, it is a great old building for when (if) the area ever recovers.

I'm not sure what it was originally but I think it has served as a branch library, a Boys Club facility and maybe a Salvation Army center, too. It is a nice looking building.

I was also told it was a library. There is some sort of plaque on it that mentions a lot of board/trustee members from the 1960s. I can't remember the exact info on the plaque. I walked by it a while ago. I live on English Avenue about a block from it. I'll be going to a neighborhood meeting this weekend and will take a look at it again. But one of my older neighbors said it used to be a library branch when she was a girl. Right now there is some sort of construction company that has kind of remodeled it and they have a bunch of building/stone materials there and equipment in that location and directly across the street at the same intersection at an old mechanic shop. City workers are over there frequently getting things so I figure they do a lot of work for the city or it is some sort of city building now.
