There is great speculation that Rick Sanchez was peeved that he didn't get to keep the 8 pm primetime slot and wanted out of his contract, so the radio thing was a setup. After his non-compete runs out, don't be surprised if he shows up on Fox.

[My recollection and interpretation of things, which may be less than perfect. Pardon an inaccuracies.]

I remember reading 10 or so years back that CNN decided that if they were going to compete as a national network, they would have to open up in NYC and DC. I think Anderson Cooper, and other major shows out of NYC and DC started in full swing after that. The "celebrity anchor" phenomenon started around then with 1 hour shows, and shows with distinct names (Connie Chung Hour vs. CNN News Hour -- [I am just making up names]).

Several things 10 years later. CNN is no longer the leader. It is one of three. I think the primetime programming is still not in Atlanta. CNN SI and Money have been shutdown. People no longer go to TV to get their source of "news", they go to TV for "opinion". (They already know the news from the internet, etc.)

I respect CNN and Atlanta. But saying that CNN covering Atlanta (especially if they were not covering Atlanta's bright future) would be cause for others hating Atlanta if way over the top.

Just looked at the CNN programming schedule. CNN Newsroom is 9am-5pm, and is probably out of Atlanta. Everything else (6am-9am, 5pm-12 midnite) seems out of NYC or DC.

^^^ You totally missed the point: Because CNN is based in Atlanta, it has a propensity to report on local news events more frequently than if the network were simply based in NYC or Washington; as a result, Atlanta's national profile is elevated beyond that of similarly sized peer cities -- Houston, Dallas, Miami, Detroit, Boston, etc. And THAT is why some people in other parts of the country grow weary of hearing so much about Atlanta: Because it's in the news so much, disportionate to its population.

CAPICHE?

No, I totally understand. I just don't understand why one would even care about it. Personally my city's national prestige and disproportionate local news reporting on a national news station does not have any effect on my thoughts or life.

I didn't know Nashville had any "national prestige" or "disproportionate local news reporting on a national news station." Did I miss something?

Besides, even if it did, that wouldn't effect you because you LIVE there. The point was (AGAIN!) the impression it makes on people living OUTSIDE the city, not within.

Atlanta's profile nationally and internationally is greatly increased by the presence of CNN, The Weather Channel, cable sports programming, reality TV, the hip-hop music industry and, increasingly, network TV and major motion picture production.

How many different times do I have to explain this to you before you understand the gist of this thread?

No I understand completely... but why does it matter if the media is disproportionately covering a city?? Why does that upset you so much??

Having a cable network in your back yard isn't all s's and g's. Our embarrassing moments tend to be played out on the national stage as well. It's a double edged sword.
