St. Patrick's Day...1989. My plane touched down and I took the MARTA rail to Lenox Station, where I met my friend - a college roommate from school in Colorado. He had lived in Atlanta a couple years and really liked it. We were both in our early 20s.

When I left Denver, there was snow on the ground and the temp was in the 20s. That afternoon in Atlanta reached near 75 as I recall. Lenox was buzzing with people....everything seemed new, fresh, alive! Nice cars were everywhere....there was a definite sense of 'success' in Atlanta - I don't think that embodiment has left, at least not yet. People were wearing shorts, tank tops, sandals, etc.

My buddy picked me up on the corner by the JW Marriott - we drove towards West Paces (back when you could cut through the neighborhood to Piedmont Road). After dumping off my bags at the Residence Inn on Piedmont, we ventured over to Buckhead Avenue. Several of the streets were blocked off for St. Patrick's Day and I thought I had died and gone to heaven! There were beautiful women everywhere, the weather was fantastic and I thought I would consider relocating to Atlanta in the coming months, if I were able to land a job. I remember the people we met were very friendly.

I stayed a week. We hit several nightclubs (Rupert's, remember that one?), ate at Dante's drove around West Paces, Northside, the Governor's mansion and pretty much all over. The trees, good roads, weather, and hot girls were too much of a lure....I ended up moving a couple months later.

Early 1966. I remember walking down the street beside the construction site of what was then the brand new First National Bank of Atlanta building. Being a little kid from the country, I recall being astounded at the sight of that really tall building, thinking it was the biggest building in the world.

I was born in Atlanta, but my family moved to the burbs when I was two. The first memory I have of visiting Atlanta proper is when we went to Zoo Atlanta when I was four years old. The only thing I remember is Willie B. (RIP). This was back when he was in the concrete enclosure with the glass wall. I was pressed up against the glass watching him in awe, when he walked right over to where I was standing and peed all over the glass! A priceless memory!

My first experience with Atlanta was airport hopping. My dad went on a job interview to Shreveport and on the way back we stopped in Atlanta when it was the old airport. We sat in a long line of planes taking their turns for take-off. I thought it would take "forever". I had never seen an airport before or since that was so slammed with traffic.

I do. I was probably around 10. It was hot as hell, and, luckily, the house I was staying at in Marietta had a pool.

I had a great time on my mini-vacation. Not much else I remember except I went to some Mexican restaurant and it was excellent.

My first memory of going to Atlanta was when i went with my grandmother to the 1996 Olympics we got the little doll of the mascot of the games, the little blue thing, and later on a loud explosion from the bombing, thats a little hard to forget. The screaming, you could hear how scared everyone was waiting to see if there were going to be anymore, almost getting trampled by people running, but i love that city, theres no other like it.

Driving through the city in the middle of a rainy night in a station wagon of girls on our way to Florida for spring break. Remember thinking Atlanta seemed like just a bunch of Waffle Houses.

Next time I was in Atlanta was when I was changing planes on my way to Biloxi to help with the post- Katrina relief effort. The airport was filled with groups of people from all over the country doing the same thing.

My first visit was back in 1992, when a good friend from high school was looking to buy a house here. I flew down to check out some locations with him in Roswell and Acworth, and recall thinking, "who would want to live all the way out here?" They were clearing chicken farms in the middle of nowhere and building massive developments. I now live about 15 miles further north than the places we visited back then.....lol

Back in 1996 when my dad was temporarily living here for a project with Delta. I was about 12 and we flew down to visit. We went to Stone Mountain and toured Delta's headquarters. good stuff

Christmas 1981. My sister lived here and I had a college admissions interview in Atlanta. She lived in Dunwoody in an apartment complex that no longer exists. The area was a bit different back then.
