If its anything like their HSPA "4G" speeds its probably going to suck. Verizon LTE speeds around here are pretty damn good though... 12-20 meg downloads on average. On top of that AT&T has tiered data, so that doesnt do a heavy user much good to have 4G speeds when you can only use 2 Gigs a month before they start charging you xtra. With apps like netflix mobile you could easily go over that in a couple of days.

I believe Verizon is following AT&T into offering tiered data services. No more unlimited data for Verizon customers....

Luckily for me, I was an early adoptee of the iPhone back when they offered true unlimited data so it didn't affect me when they switched to tiered data.

Probably won't matter much, their network is crammed to death and by the time they get done with all their fees most won't be able to afford it. Pricing will start out attractive and last as long as the commercial but, you will pay for it.

Couple that with a company full of people dying to retire out of this shiite and you can pretty much put your thumb on the end result, high prices, lackluster customer care.....

Verizon and others will have to start metering it because:
  • You won't have a choice as the carriers are consolidating. Less choice means higher prices and declining customer care...that's why we broke these guys up to begin with???
  • Usage on the networks cost money. You can't expect them to let you keep blasting away your latest youtube hit for free. Network was never designed to support that much streaming at this price. You will have to pay for it
  • Because they can? See bullet number one......

It has been said by Verizon execs that mid-Summer, unlimited data pricing will end. But in theory at least, they may be offering people more than AT&T's 2 gig per $25 limit for that same price point. Most likely if you are already under contract when it hits though, you will be grandfathered in at least until the end of that contract.

The difference with AT&T vs. Verizon is that AT&T still allows you to be grandfathered into the old Unlimited data plan even if you upgrade your phone, while Verizon will force you change at the end of your contract. Either way, good quality LTE phones that don't die by noon because of a crappy battery won't be out until 2012 at the earliest.

What if you're out of contract on Verizon? I have a promo price of $19 for unlimited for year I believe, then it will go back to $29.

What will happen if I'm out of contract and don't plan on getting a new phone? Will I be grandfathered in until I want a new phone/contract?

I don't plan to ever be under contract again.
