My sister lives in the area and her mixed breed was just diagnosed with Diabetes. Any recommendations for vets in the area that are a bit open minded with diabetes treatment, non-prescription foods, and aren't terribly expensive? She is currently taking her dog to Banfield and I think that is a bad idea since they guilt her into spending a lot more money than she should.

Alley - Where in the area does she live?

She lives in Midtown. But, if there are good vets outside of the area, she is willing to drive.

The only vet we have used since moving to GA that didn't try to up the cost was Alpharetta Animal Hospital. They have even seen my dogs without charging me when I was concerned about a limp that turned out to be nothing. I have no idea if they are experts in diabetic dogs, but they do what YOU want. For yearly checkups I can ask for only rabies and distemper vaccinations, and they comply.

The other vets around me charge some crazy prices.

Alley - plead with your sister to forgo the corporate clinics. Vet turnover is too great to receive personal attention from professionals who know your dog and it's history. I highly recommend Ambrey Animal Clinic on Howell Mill, just north of the waterworks. Dr. Daniels is outstanding! She cares for our five pups and has cared for numerous of our past dogs. Can't say enough about her practice!

Glad to hear these recommendations for our four-leggers!

We have used both Briarcliff Animal Clinic near Emory and Dr. Lance Hirsh in Buckhead. They've all been quite wonderful with our pups.
