I know this past October (2012) the state of Ga passed a change in the state's tax code to include 8% sales tax on internet purchases. To my understanding, this means that someone purchasing anything online living in the state of Ga will have to pay an additional 8%.. right?

Here are a few of the main questions I have:

1 - Is Ga to collect this additional revenue from the online out-of-state retailer(s)?
2 - If so, is it the online retailer's responsibility to collect the tax from Ga internet shoppers?
3 - Also, if a person inside the state of Ga buys something via the web without paying the 8% sales tax, how (if at all) will that affect their state income tax liability?

Just looking for some clarification on the new Ga sales tax on internet goods. Let me know if my assumptions are off base. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Yep. Keep cutting taxes but the revenue has to be made up somewhere. See this article on Texas corporate incentives (esp. the bit about Amazon sales tax fight...I hope GA isn't following the lead of Gang Perry..

I don't fully understand how it's all going down, but the tone of the article seems to indicate that Georgians are not going to have to pay sales tax on purchases from Amazon.

It sounds to me like this wasn't the state of Georgia trying to figure out how to generate tax revenue so much as it was the result of the state responding to brick & mortar lobbying groups.
