Hello, I have found an appartment in the Atlanta area and am slated in to move in within the next 2 weeks. We have been approved, given a welcome letter, and have been assigned an appartment. However they say it is too early to sign a lease.

It has been many years since I have lived in an appartment. So my question is, is this normal that we have about 10 days until move in and they dont want us to sign the lease yet? Do most appartments have you sign the lease just when you move in?

I'm no expert but I think it is standard procedure around here that they have you sign the day you move in; otherwise you would technically be paying for an apartment you aren't even living in yet. Have you already paid your security deposit? That's what will hold the apartment in most cases.

Adric is right. (As a long time Doctor Who fan I never thought I'd type that. ) You sign when you move in. The deposit will hold it for you.

You sign the lease the day you get the keys. That has always been my experience.
